We pride ourselves on making things as simple as possible for our customers. For helpful tips on packing and organizing your unit, head on over to our storage tips page.
- What is required to move-in?
In order to move-in, we require a valid government issued ID, a one-time administrative fee, and the first installment of monthly rent. The move-in process can be completed in-person with the help of our property managers or online at your convenience. If you complete the rental process online, you will be asked to show a valid government ID to receive your gate code when you arrive at the facility.
- Is your facility secure?
We know that you are trusting us to store your personal belongings and we take every measure to deter theft and nefarious activity. All of our properties are well-lit, fenced, and gated and our electronic access system requires a unique tenant code to enter the premises. Additionally, all of our properties are equipped with a CCTV security system and our rental agreement requires all units to be secured by a disc style lock for maximum security.
- What are the access hours?
Our office is staffed Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm and from 9am to 3pm on Saturdays. You may access your unit from 6am to 10pm daily. Select locations may offer 24 hour access for an additional monthly fee. This varies by location and we recommend calling the property manager at your location for store specific information.
- Can I drive up to my unit? Is it on the ground floor?
Yes, all of our locations and all our units are drive-up accessible. This means you unload directly from your vehicle and straight to your unit. No elevators, hallways, or hassle.
- Does your facility have an on-site property manager or do you use a call center?
Yes, we have on-site property managers at all locations. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service and we believe having on-site staff elevates the customer experience. All of our stores have an on-site property manager who directly answers your phone call.
In the event that there are unforeseen circumstances, your call may be routed to a nearby property manager but you will still be getting an A1 U Store It employee between the hours of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturday. If you call outside our normal business hours, we do have an after hours service that can make a reservation, take payments, or provide general information about your account and our facility.
- How soon will my rate go up and by how much?
As a family-owned business, we believe in fair and transparent pricing. We understand that budgeting for monthly expenses can be difficult when rates change unexpectedly. With A1 U Store It, you can expect your rate to stay the same for at least six (6) months from the time of move-in. Thereafter, rates are reviewed on an approximate, annual basis to account for changes in the consumer price index. All changes to customer rates come with advanced, written notice no less than thirty (30) days prior to the effective date of the change.
Please note, this policy may not apply to select promotional move-in offers. For example, if the move in rent is $100/mo. and you receive a 50% off the first three (3) months promotion, you can expect to pay $50/mo. for the first three (3) months. Thereafter, monthly rent will go to $100/mo.
- Do I need a Tenant Protection Plan? Does my homeowners plan cover the contents of my storage unit?
While we can’t speak to your individual homeowner’s or renter’s policy, we strongly recommend a Tenant Protection Plan to cover the contents of your unit. Our plans are first pay coverage. This means that should something happen to your storage unit, your contents will be covered first by our plan. There’s no out-of-pocket deductible and you don’t have to make a claim against your homeowner’s or renter’s policy.
- Who do I contact if I need help?
Our on-site property managers are equipped to handle most customer issues. If you find that your issue cannot be resolved or you are unhappy with the service you received, please email us directly at support@a1ustoreit.com.
- Are there any hidden fees?
In addition to the monthly rent, we require a one-time administrative fee at move-in for all customers which helps ensure that your paperwork gets processed quickly and accurately by our on-site property managers. We do provide other optional products as a convenience to our customers. Check with your local on-site property manager for details.
- What is the rental term? Are there any prepaid promotions?
All of our rental agreements are month to month for your convenience. The maximum prepayment that we will allow is six months. We do not offer any prepaid promotions at this time.
- Do I need climate controlled storage?
For most self-storage users, the additional cost of climate control is not necessary. Climate controlled storage may be beneficial if you will be storing items such as antique, wooden furniture, musical instruments, pharmaceuticals, irreplaceable documents, photos, or valuable artwork. If you are still unsure about whether you need climate controlled storage or not, please consult with your local, on-site property manager.
- Will my stuff get moldy?
We do everything we can to provide a clean and dry storage facility, however, mold and mildew can develop wherever moisture is present. While proper storage can significantly reduce the risk, no storage environment can guarantee that mold or mildew will never occur.
To help protect your belongings, we recommend storing only clean, dry items and using proper packing techniques that allow air circulation around your belongings. Avoid placing damp items into storage, and consider using moisture-control products when storing items that may be sensitive to humidity.
If you have questions about preparing your belongings for storage, please refer to our Storage Tips section here.
- What lock should I use?
Our rental agreement requires the use of a disc style lock for maximum security.
- Can I receive deliveries to my unit?
For security reasons, our staff cannot accept deliveries on your behalf, hold keys to your unit, or provide gate access to anyone who is not a tenant. Should you choose to have deliveries made on your behalf, you must provide unit access information to your chosen carrier. Any deliveries made on your behalf are your sole responsibility.
- Can I see the unit before renting?
Yes, we strongly recommend viewing the unit prior to completing the rental agreement. This ensures your belongings will fit and avoid the potential hassle of transferring to a different size unit later.
- How clean is the facility and is there pest control?
We believe the customer experience is paramount and we do everything in our control to provide a clean and professionally managed facility. Our pest control vendors are contracted to service our properties quarterly. Additionally, our rental agreement prohibits storing perishable goods, open containers of food, or things of the like. While we do everything in our control to provide clean facilities, things can still happen. Should you notice any issues with your unit, please reach out to your store’s on-site property manager.
- I lost the keys to my lock. Can I cut the lock off of my unit?
If you lost your keys and/or can no longer access your unit, please inform your on-site property manager as soon as possible so that they can schedule our maintenance personnel to remove the lock within 48 hours for a fee. Removal of your own lock is strictly prohibited to prevent property damage and/or personal injury.
- Can I transfer unit sizes later?
Yes, please consult with your on-site property manager should you wish to transfer to a larger or smaller sized unit.
- Can I drive a moving truck onto the property? Will it fit?
Yes, all of our properties were engineered to comfortably navigate up to a 29 foot moving truck. Some properties can accommodate full-size tractor trailers. Individual properties vary so we recommend calling our on-site property managers with specific questions.
- What is the move-out process?
When you are ready to move out, we ask that you give prior written notice as prescribed in your rental agreement. In order to avoid further charges, we require that you remove all items from your unit, including the lock on the door. To ensure your account is closed in a timely manner, we highly recommend notifying the on-site property manager once all items have been vacated.
